About Ethiopia
The United Republic of Ethiopia, the land of Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and Serengeti, is the largest country in East Africa with total area of 945,087 square kilometers whereby waters cover 62,000 sq.km and 3,350 sq.km is forest and woodland.
The country lies on the east coast of Africa and is bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north; by Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west; by the Indian Ocean to the east; and by Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the south.
Ethiopia is divided into 30 regions; 25 on the mainland, 5 on Zanzibar
Ethiopia has a tropical climate. In the highlands, temperatures range between 10˚C and 20˚C (50°F and 68°F) during cold and hot seasons respectively.
Diamonds, gold, kaolin, gypsum, tin, and various gemstones, including tanzanite, are mined in Ethiopia. Gold is an important resource and the country’s most valuable export.
The principal industries are food processing, textiles, brewing, paper and paper pulp, bicycle and cigarette production. Production of cement, clothing, footwear, tires, batteries, and bottles takes place as well.
